Katrina says a flat no to kissing

Katrina Kaif has said a firm ‘no’ to kissing scenes in her forthcoming films – even if the script demands so.

Says a friend of the actress: “Katrina has said no to kissing scenes in all her films barring ‘New York’. And believe you me, the directors are very keen to see her kiss her co-stars. Katrina cleverly keeps dodging all the so-called must-kiss scenes.”
“She is a very conservative girl at heart. In fact, when reports claimed she was going to wear a bikini in ‘Dostana 2,’ Katrina protested violently and made it clear to producer Karan Johar and director Tarun Mansukhani – ‘No exposure. No kissing’.”
In fact, the cast and crew of “Rajneeti” calls Katrina the new-age Hema Malini because she has the hits and she won’t expose or kiss.
Says Katrina with a laugh: “Well…that’s true. Though comparing me with Hemaji is too much. I don’t deny I’ve done scenes in the past where I did things that I wasn’t comfortable with. But now I won’t. I just don’t feel comfortable doing kissing scenes, or for that matter, wearing a bikini on screen.”
In both “Ajan Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani” and “Rajneeti,” there was apparently a request for a kiss with Ranbir Kapoor. But Katrina said a polite yet firm no.
Says a source: “All the intimate scenes in ‘Rajneeti’ are between Ranbir and his American girlfriend played by Sarah Thompson. They have lingering love-making and kissing shots. In the Indian portion of Ranbir’s story, there’s no intimacy with Katrina. She convinced the director that the character of a dignified politician doing intimate scenes would not go down well with the audience.”
Katrina says: “It’s true…I’m not at all comfortable doing kissing scenes. Call me a prude or conservative. I just don’t feel kissing scenes jell well with our audiences. So no kissing scenes for me.”

Rahul Gandhi to attend ‘Leader’ premier

Director, Shekar Kammula is planning to screen a special show of his latest flick, ‘Leader’ for Rahul Gandhi. It is said that Leader story is based on today’s politics and the lead role (Daggubati Rana) in the film has a youngster as a politician.

In a recent interview, Rana said that his character in the film is inspired from great leaders like JF Kennedy and Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi, a parliamentarian and Congress politico was invited for the show and if at all, Rahul makes it Leader surely gets large publicity even in other places too. The film will be hitting the screens on 11^th February.

‘We must work together,’ Aamir tells Big B

When Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan turned up to mourn Aamir Khan’s father’s death, the younger actor expressed a desire to work together.

“We went across to Aamir’s place and spent time with him and his family. Tried to keep the atmosphere light and cheerful. It was pleasant. As Aamir came down to see us off when we left his house, he expressed, ‘We must work together sir…’ I told him to direct a film. He has such talent for it. He nodded (in) approval,” Amitabh posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

Aamir lost his father, well-known filmmaker Tahir Hussain, Tuesday morning.
Amitabh also expressed his grief on the death of yesteryear actor and producer Sujit Kumar.
“Sujit Kumar passed away early this morning (Friday)…When life ends it takes along so many moments of the past in quick succession. All those memories of time spent together, the films, the locations on outdoors, the camaraderie, all gone in one swift cruel move. Condolences and prayers for his children and family,” posted the actor.
Sujit was 75 years old and is survived by two children.

Director Shankar and Siddharth to pair up!

Mega director, Shankar and Superstar Rajini Kanth’s combo-pack ‘Robo’ has completed its 90% of its shooting and now Shankar is planning for his next film. He seems to be planning for a romantic love-story this time, keeping aside his mega budget plans.

Shankar’s next film will be with Siddharth who has introduced the hero with the film, Boys. Now, Siddharth has established his own image now in tollywood, kollywood and recently in bollywood too. Shankar seems to be happy about Siddarth. The last two films of the director, Sivaji and Robo are mega budget films with super star Rajini Kanth.

Varudu unit faces Telangana heat!

Allu Arjun’s upcoming film Varudu shoot was progressing today at Kukatpally where the director, Gunashekar was picturizing the climax fight sequence with Ahuthi Prasad and other 30 more fighters along with Allu Arjun. T-agitators tried to attack on the shooting spot but, could not attack on film-unit since the police had lathe charged on these attackers.

Dynamic director, Gunasekhar is directing this film. DVV Danayya is the producing the film under the Universal Media banner. Varudu is planned to release for this summer.

Golimaar shooting at Malaysia from 8th Feb

Puri Jagannath and Gopichand’s combo-pack ‘Golimaar’ has planned its next schedule in Malaysia from 8^th February. Few crucial scenes in the film and two songs will be shot in the exotic locations.

Priyamani is playing the female lead in the film. Golimar is being produced under the banner Sri Sai Ganesh Productions. Chakri is scoring the music for the film and Shyam K Naidu will handle the camera.

Other important roles in the film are done by Nassar, Roja, Shavar Ali, Pasupathi.

Rahman selected for IFMC award

The International Film Music Critics Association has declared 2009 awards for its excellence in the category of music.Music maestro A R Rahman has been chosen in the category of Best Original Score for Hollywood Comedy movie ‘Couples Retreat’ for his excellence in music.

The popular song ‘NaNa’…in the film has also been selected for academy awards.The Tamil song ‘Kurukuru Kann’ in the album is famous for which Rahman himself wrote the lyrics.The members around the world were present in the event.

James Newton Howard for the film ‘Duplicity’, Marvin Hamlisch for the film ‘The Informant’, Alexandre Desplat of ‘Julie & Julia’ and Debbie Wiseman of ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’ were also nominated for the awards  their excellence in music.Winners of its Sixth Annual Awards will be announced on February 26, 2010.

Namo Venkatesa unit planning for a tour

The team of ‘Namo Venkatesa’ seems to be quite happy about the result of the film and is now planning for a tour after its 50 days of run. The banner, 14 Reels Entertainment has said that,” “We are making plans to celebrate special platinum disc function soon. Also, to celebrate the 50-day run, a function and success tour is being planned.”

The team has recently celebrated the Republic Day with some senior members of Andhra Pradesh Police in Hyderabad. When Big B was moved to tears at ‘Rann’ premiere

A loud applause still moves Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan.

“A thunderous and prolonged applause at the end of a scene that I perform towards the end of the film, moved me to tears,” the 67-year-old posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com Thursday night, when he was here for the premiere of his latest movie “Rann”.

“I cannot remember it happening to me in recent times, nor in times past – an audience applause in the middle of my film, at the end of a scene or dialogue. But it happened tonight at the premier of ‘Rann’,” he added.

Released Friday, the media drama has been directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Gul Panag and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.

RGV’s Awaham in post-production stages

Ram Gopal Varma who tries to scare the audience with his horror films, is coming up with ‘Awaham’ which is a sequel to Raksha. RGV is presenting this film. Awaham is currently in its postproduction stages. Awaham starts from the point where the prequel has ended and is said to be the scariest films ever made in Indian cinema

The film is being directed by the writer Milind Gadagkar. He said,” Fear is such a strong emotion that it defies all logic. I wanted to take the audience to a place where the horrors are so painfully scary and gory that even a rational mind will lose its sanity.” The film is produced by Burra Prashanth and P. Chandrasekhar under Sarthak Movies Ltd. banner in association with Zed 3 Pictures.
The film is gearing up for its release in the month of April.

Prasthanam to release in Feb

‘Prasthanam’ starring Sharwanand, Ruby, Sandeep Kishan and Saikumar in the lead roles will be hitting the screens in the month of February. The movie was supposed to release in the month of December but got postponed due to several reasons. The story is based on a political back drop.

Music is by Mahesh Shankar, lyrics are by Vanamali and Chaitanya Prasad, camera is by Savita Singh, and art is by Rajiv Nayar, while story screenplay, dialogues and direction are by Deva Katta who has earlier directed Vennala film. The movie is being produced by Vallabhaneni Ravi under VRC Media and Entertainment banner

Sophie first Indian female artist to get YouTube channel

Singer-actress Sophie Chaudhary has reportedly become the first female artist from India to have a channel of her own on the video sharing website YouTube.

“I’ve started my own channel on YouTube because it has become a popular way to reach out to the fans. I’m told that I am the first female artist from India to have a channel on YouTube,” Sophie, said in a statement.

“The channel will showcase my videos, making of the videos and songs,” she added.

The once-VJ has also announced a contest “Sophie ko mohabbat sikhade” on the channel where fans can upload a video of themselves talking about love and the most romantic thing they have ever done.

The winner will get a chance to go out on a date with Sophie.

Genelia to endorse fairness cream

Bollywood actress Genelia D’Souza, who shot to fame with “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na”, has joined Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in signing up as the face of a fairness cream brand.

She will now endorse Garnier’s new product Garnier Light, said a press release from the firm.

Deepika is the brand ambassador of Johnson & Johnson’s new fairness cream Neutrogena Fine Fairness, while Bollywood hunk John Abraham endorses Garnier Men fairness cream. Sonam Kapoor is the face of L’Oreal white perfect and last year Katrina Kaif was signed up as the face for Olay’s skin whitening cream.

Junior NTR marrying a minor?

The proposed marriage of popular Telugu film actor Junior NTR with a relative of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu has created a row with claims that the girl is minor.

Shanti Prasad, a lawyer, Friday approached Machilipatnam Legal Services Authority claiming that Narne Lakshmi Pranati was a minor and thus her marriage would be illegal.

The authority issued notices to Junior NTR, Naidu and the girl’s father Narne Srinivas Rao, who owns Telugu news channel Studio N. The hearing was adjourned to Feb 24.

Pranati is the daughter of Naidu’s niece Narne Mallika. Sources close to the family of the bride-to-be, however, clarified that she would turn 18 on March 26 and marriage would take place only after that.

The minimum legal age for a girl in India is 18 years.

The sources also clarified that the clippings of Pranati being shown on television channels were recorded a couple of years ago.

Former chief minister Naidu Thursday confirmed that the young actor would soon tie the knot.

Junior NTR, 27, is the grandson of thespian, TDP founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, who was popularly known as NTR. Naidu is the son-in-law of NTR.

Junior NTR, son of N. Harikrishna, is one of the leading actors of Telugu cinema and has churned several hit movies since he made his debut in 2001.

Naga Chaitanya’s third flick to launch in March

Naga chaitanya’s third movie under the direction of Ajay Bhuyan will be launching in the month of March. ‘Kamakshi kala movies’ is presenting the film with D Siva Prasad Reddy as producer.

On this event, D.SivaPrasad Reddy the producer of the movie said,” We are happy to make a film with Naga Chaitanya in our banner. Kajal is playing the female lead in the film. Ajay Bhuyan is being introduced as a director with this flick. We are trying to bring out the film with high technical values and a good script.

Ram Charan under the direction of Trivikram

Ramcharan Teja will be soon shooting under the direction of Trivikram Srinivas for shooting a Pepsi ad film. The leading advertising agency has roped Trivikram, the hotshot director who is known for his punch dialogues for their new commercial. This is the first time that Trivikram is directing a television commercial who is also providing concept and storyboard for this ad. The shoot will be completed in a week time and ad will be out by next month.

We all know Ram Charan is the brand ambassador for Pepsi in Andhra Pradesh. After the super success of his Magadheera, Pepsi is focusing on the actor with new-ad’s to cash the new popularity.

Industry is also at buzz that, Trivikram is planning a movie with Ram Charan in next few months after Charan’s Orange project. However, the details are not yet confirmed.

Hits and Flops of 2009

Tollywood’s film indusry went through up’s and down’s this year.The year approximately saw 125 movies, but the hits can be counted on finger tips.Some of the movies saw huge disasters while some were boxoffice hits.2009 can be declared as highest losses lowest hits year. Here is the review of hits and misses of 2009.

January

The year started with Krishna Vamsi’s Sasirekha Parinayam which was released on Jan 1’st starring Genelia and Tarun in the lead roles and Posani Krishna Murali’s Mental Krishna and Sivaji’s Indumati also released on the New year day . Sasirekha Parinayam was attracted to few categories of people. Mental Krishna although went through some controversies, it made some collections. Ram,Hansika, Sheela starrer Maska produced by M.S.Raju released for Pongal but remained as an average film, not reaching to its higher expectations. Allari Naresh’s fitting master also released for Pongal was an average film.

Anushka-Kodi Rama Krishna combo pack, Arundathi released a day later sankranthi created wonders and resulted in a sensational box-Office hit by breaking many top-heroes records. It collected Rs 30 crore and was the first hit of the year .The movies that were released later were small-budget movies with new cast and remained as flops. Totally, tollywood brought 20 movies in this month.

February

10 movies were released in this month while none remained as a hit. Siddhath-Tamannah starrer Konchem Istam Konchem Kastam(KIKK) is the only movie that brought an average talk in this month which is targeted towards family crowds. Nitin’s ‘Drona ‘ which  has come up with expectations bombed at the box-office. Incompetent direction and bad villain characterization are few reasons for the movie getting flop. Priyamani’s skimpiest bikini show did not help the movie in any way. Jagapatibabu’s Siddam and charmi’s 16days remained as flops.

March

March also brought 10 movies to the big screens. Many low-budget movies were released like Amma Rajashekar’s Bheebatsam, Charmi’s Manorama. Aakasamantha that was dubbed from the Tamil version released in this month. Aakasamantha is a different film made on relationships. Prakash Raj performance, entertaining first-half gained applauses from the family crowds in A centers

April

The much awaited film with large hype Prabhas starrer ‘Billa’ was released in this hot elections month. Prabhas made an attempt to attract the audience with his well toned and highly muscular body in the role of the don and his timing dialogues and stylish steps earned plus points to the movie. . Although movie did not reach to its higher expectations the movie remained as an average one. Jagapati babu’s Adineta which was released in this month remained as a below average movie. Only 5 movies were released in this month

May

The hot month saw 16 movies in tollywood. Nandamuri BalaKrishna’s Mitrudu has been released on the May Day .Although movie did not make any success BalaKrishna was shown in a new style. The movie lacked in commercial payoffs and there was no relevance to the title and the story. Jagapati babu’s Bangaru babu that was released on the same day failed to grab the family audience attention too. Ravi teja’s Kick released in the second week of the month resulted as a successful box-office hit of summer. Surrendar reddy, the action movies director proved himself with this movie as a comedy-entertainer too. Kick attracted all categories of audience and stood as one of the larger hits of 2009. Vishal, Sreya starrer ‘Pista’ which has come up with huge expectations also remained as a below average film. Manchu Manoj’s small budget movie Prayanam also released in the same month. The director tried out a new and different film with interesting premise, good music and class comedy. Prayanam has done well and had got back its revenues.

June

June totally saw 14 movies but none of them remained as a hit. Kavya’s diary,Ride, Current, Boni, Evaraina Eppudaina were released in this month. Nani, Tanish, Shweta Basu Prasad, Aksha starrer ‘Ride’ did a better job. Sumanth’s Boni with a debutant director washed out from an average list too. Sushanth, Sneha Ullal’s current has become a failure although the music was a bit success. Audience did not even notice the movies like Raja sekhar’s Na style veru, Varun Sandesh’s Evaraina Epudaina and Kavya’s diary .

July

The month started with Siddharth,Shamili starrer oye which has come up with high expectations but overall, stood as an average movie. Gopi Gopika Godavari that was released in the second week stood as an average movie.
Ram Charan , Rajamouli combo Magadheera released on 30^th July did wonders at the box office . Magadheera is the highest budgeted Telugu film and became the highest Tollywood grosser ever made. It crossed all south Indian records in collections and stood as 2nd biggest hit in India collecting share about 114 crores (including satellite rights), with a still run in theaters.

August

Nani, Madhavi latha starrer Snehithuda, Vikram’s Mallanna, Ravi teja’s Aanjaneyulu were few released movies in this month. Small budget movies with new cast were washed away due to the effect of Magadheera. Vikram’s Mallanna which came up with huge expectations and heavy budget ended up as a disaster. Sreya exposing with skimpiest costumes could not help the movie. Raviteja’s comedy entertainer ‘Anjaneyulu’ ended up with an average talk.

September

Star son Naga Chaitanya’s Josh was launched this month. Chaitanya received good applauses from the audience with his action and dialogue delivery. However, the movie did not make success. Gopichand, Trisha starrer ‘Sankham’ also was one of the disasters of the year. Nara Rohit’s debut movie ‘Banam’ brought some praises for the film-makers.

Kamal Haasan, Venkatesh’s Remake movie ‘Eenadu’ which was a hit movie in Hindi did not make success here due to reasons like characterizations and script changes from the original one. Ram, Kajal starrer Ganesh and Nitin, Ileana starrer Rechipo did not receive any success at the box-office.

October

Krishna vamsi’s Mahatma released on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti went through few controversies. Although Gandhiji orientation was a plus point, the making standards were diluted; it did not receive an expected success. Allari Naresh, Kamna Jetmalani starrer Bendu Appa Rao RMP had showed its potential in receiving success at box office. SaiRam shankar’s ‘Bumper Offer also remained as an average movie’ while Kalyan Ram’s Jayeebhava with higher expectations bombed at the box office. Puri – Prabhas combo “Ek Niranjan” also failed to reach the expectations of the audience.

However, the movie earned Rs 12 crore collections in the opening week.

November

Sequel movies Village lo Vinayakudu and Aarya2 were released in this month. Village lo vinayakudu received good collections from the family viewers of A centers. Allu Arjun’s Arya-2 although got a divide talk in the beginning, made some good collections at the box-office.Srikanth’s ‘A aa E ee ‘varun sandesh’s kurradu remained as disasters at box-office.

December

Ravi babu’s Amaravathy was released in this month. The director has a sentiment of releasing his movies in the month of December; However sentiment did not work this time. Ravi Babu has got a good script and all ingredients that required for a perfect thriller in the movie. But he couldn’t get the desired results at the end. Saleem which was 23 crores budget movie with huge expectations remained as a disaster at the box-office. The director, Y.V.S chowdary seems to have concentrated more on the budget and heroine rather than the story. Jagapati babu’s pravarakhyudu and Genelia starrer katha also did not meet the expectations. Kasko and Gentle man that were released on the eve of Christmas also failed at the box-office.

What’s the fate of ‘Goa’ release?

Soundarya Rajinikanth’s prestigious upcoming project ‘Goa’ that is scheduled to release on Jan 29^th is in trouble now. Kamalesh Kothari, a financier based in Chennai, has filed a petition against Soundarya Rajinikanth and has asked for a stay order on the release of Goa.

The petitioner says that Soundarya Rajinikanth had taken Rs 2 crore loan and promised him that she will return along with the intrest of Rs.30 lakhs before the release of the movie on Jan 29^th.  As it was not happened a case was filed against her and now the issue is in court hearing.The Judge adjourned the issue to Thursday for further proceedings. So, let’s wait and see for the result.

‘Peepli Live’ lauded at Sundance, Aamir on a high

Bollywood star Aamir Khan is extremely happy that his production venture “Peepli Live” was received well by the audience at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, US.

“Our film ‘Peepli Live’ was really well-received here at the Sundance Film Festival. We had our first screening on the 24th (Jan) at the Egyptian Theatre, Park City. Super reaction right through the film, and huge ovation at the end. Audience really seemed to love it,” Aamir posted on his blog Wednesday.

Directed by Anusha Rizvi, “Peepli Live” is a satire on rural life in India. It features Raghuvir Yadav along with debutant actors from Madhya Pradesh.

The actor, who has been conferred the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third highest civilian honour, in this year’s Republic Day awards, says he was waiting for the reactions for “Peepli Live”.

“I was really keen to see the reaction here at Sundance as I wanted to get a sense of how a non-Indian audience reacts to the film. Ninety percent of the audience was non-Indian. I am now even more certain that this film has the potential to engage a world audience.

“The big challenge, when we release the film worldwide, will be to get them (audiences) in. It doesn’t have any stars and is in a language that they don’t understand,” he added.
