Rahman selected for IFMC award

The International Film Music Critics Association has declared 2009 awards for its excellence in the category of music.Music maestro A R Rahman has been chosen in the category of Best Original Score for Hollywood Comedy movie ‘Couples Retreat’ for his excellence in music.

The popular song ‘NaNa’…in the film has also been selected for academy awards.The Tamil song ‘Kurukuru Kann’ in the album is famous for which Rahman himself wrote the lyrics.The members around the world were present in the event.

James Newton Howard for the film ‘Duplicity’, Marvin Hamlisch for the film ‘The Informant’, Alexandre Desplat of ‘Julie & Julia’ and Debbie Wiseman of ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’ were also nominated for the awards  their excellence in music.Winners of its Sixth Annual Awards will be announced on February 26, 2010.

Namo Venkatesa unit planning for a tour

The team of ‘Namo Venkatesa’ seems to be quite happy about the result of the film and is now planning for a tour after its 50 days of run. The banner, 14 Reels Entertainment has said that,” “We are making plans to celebrate special platinum disc function soon. Also, to celebrate the 50-day run, a function and success tour is being planned.”

The team has recently celebrated the Republic Day with some senior members of Andhra Pradesh Police in Hyderabad. The film was declared as a hit and is said to be one of the highest grosser among Venkatesh’s films. A Grand Platinum Disc function and Namo Venkatesa Tirumala Success tour are on the anvil.

When Big B was moved to tears at ‘Rann’ premiere

A loud applause still moves Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan.

“A thunderous and prolonged applause at the end of a scene that I perform towards the end of the film, moved me to tears,” the 67-year-old posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com Thursday night, when he was here for the premiere of his latest movie “Rann”.

“I cannot remember it happening to me in recent times, nor in times past – an audience applause in the middle of my film, at the end of a scene or dialogue. But it happened tonight at the premier of ‘Rann’,” he added.

Released Friday, the media drama has been directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Gul Panag and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.

RGV’s Awaham in post-production stages

Ram Gopal Varma who tries to scare the audience with his horror films, is coming up with ‘Awaham’ which is a sequel to Raksha. RGV is presenting this film. Awaham is currently in its postproduction stages. Awaham starts from the point where the prequel has ended and is said to be the scariest films ever made in Indian cinema

The film is being directed by the writer Milind Gadagkar. He said,” Fear is such a strong emotion that it defies all logic. I wanted to take the audience to a place where the horrors are so painfully scary and gory that even a rational mind will lose its sanity.” The film is produced by Burra Prashanth and P. Chandrasekhar under Sarthak Movies Ltd. banner in association with Zed 3 Pictures.
The film is gearing up for its release in the month of April.

Prasthanam to release in Feb

‘Prasthanam’ starring Sharwanand, Ruby, Sandeep Kishan and Saikumar in the lead roles will be hitting the screens in the month of February. The movie was supposed to release in the month of December but got postponed due to several reasons. The story is based on a political back drop.

Music is by Mahesh Shankar, lyrics are by Vanamali and Chaitanya Prasad, camera is by Savita Singh, and art is by Rajiv Nayar, while story screenplay, dialogues and direction are by Deva Katta who has earlier directed Vennala film. The movie is being produced by Vallabhaneni Ravi under VRC Media and Entertainment banner

Sophie first Indian female artist to get YouTube channel

Singer-actress Sophie Chaudhary has reportedly become the first female artist from India to have a channel of her own on the video sharing website YouTube.

“I’ve started my own channel on YouTube because it has become a popular way to reach out to the fans. I’m told that I am the first female artist from India to have a channel on YouTube,” Sophie, said in a statement.

“The channel will showcase my videos, making of the videos and songs,” she added.

The once-VJ has also announced a contest “Sophie ko mohabbat sikhade” on the channel where fans can upload a video of themselves talking about love and the most romantic thing they have ever done.

The winner will get a chance to go out on a date with Sophie.

Genelia to endorse fairness cream

Bollywood actress Genelia D’Souza, who shot to fame with “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na”, has joined Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor in signing up as the face of a fairness cream brand.

She will now endorse Garnier’s new product Garnier Light, said a press release from the firm.

Deepika is the brand ambassador of Johnson & Johnson’s new fairness cream Neutrogena Fine Fairness, while Bollywood hunk John Abraham endorses Garnier Men fairness cream. Sonam Kapoor is the face of L’Oreal white perfect and last year Katrina Kaif was signed up as the face for Olay’s skin whitening cream.

Actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu have spoken against fairness creams as they feel it generates discrimination on the basis of skin colour

Junior NTR marrying a minor?

The proposed marriage of popular Telugu film actor Junior NTR with a relative of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu has created a row with claims that the girl is minor.

Shanti Prasad, a lawyer, Friday approached Machilipatnam Legal Services Authority claiming that Narne Lakshmi Pranati was a minor and thus her marriage would be illegal.

The authority issued notices to Junior NTR, Naidu and the girl’s father Narne Srinivas Rao, who owns Telugu news channel Studio N. The hearing was adjourned to Feb 24.

Pranati is the daughter of Naidu’s niece Narne Mallika. Sources close to the family of the bride-to-be, however, clarified that she would turn 18 on March 26 and marriage would take place only after that.

The minimum legal age for a girl in India is 18 years.

The sources also clarified that the clippings of Pranati being shown on television channels were recorded a couple of years ago.

Former chief minister Naidu Thursday confirmed that the young actor would soon tie the knot.

Junior NTR, 27, is the grandson of thespian, TDP founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, who was popularly known as NTR. Naidu is the son-in-law of NTR.

Junior NTR, son of N. Harikrishna, is one of the leading actors of Telugu cinema and has churned several hit movies since he made his debut in 2001.

Red Sands 2009 DVDRip Very Interesting

Before seeing this movie, I expected something better from the director of 'Dead Birds' which was a very decent movie (not breath-taking, but interesting and worth-seeing in the horror genre).
I got disappointed very early on, but I continued to watch it, maybe hoping for an interesting turn or at least something that would compensate me for the 90 minutes spent seeing it. But it kept on going worse. OK, the story setting is good, a group of American soldiers stationed in the Afghanistan's desert waking up a djinn. That's all that was good. It could be a nice movie but the result was boring, dull, not at least frightening, and the end is totally predictable. The actors were rather mediocre, the dialogs poor, the characters stereotypical, the special effects very cheap, the attempt to describe the American view of the Muslim religion childish and lacking, and the overall plot had a lot of holes in it. With one word, boring. A waste of time, there must be hundreds of other movies in this category better than this one so do not waste any time on this.
